Herbert P. Schoen Scholarship Fund
1. Regulations: The scholarship candidate must be working towards a baccalaureate degree in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Hartford. While the actual amount may vary, the scholarship can range up to full tuition, for up to two years. The Office of Financial Aid will determine the final amount.
The University of Hartford Screening Committee (selected faculty from the College of Arts and Sciences) will nominate a maximum of four finalists from the pool of applicants and forward all nomination materials to the Herbert P. Schoen Scholarship Supervisory Committee. The Supervisory Committee (which typically includes the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and representatives of the Hartford Insurance Group) interviews the finalists. Thus, the finalists are required to meet with the Supervisory Committee, and this year, those meetings will take place virtually, through video calls. Shortly after the interviews, and no later than the end of May, the Herbert P. Schoen Scholar will be selected.
All applicants will receive consideration for selection as a Herbert P. Schoen Scholarship recipient without regard to race, color, sex, age, religion, national and ethnic origin, disability, sexual orientation, marital status, gender identity or expression, veteran status, genetic information, or any other protected class.
2. Conditions of Eligibility: To be eligible, an applicant must be a full-time undergraduate at the University of Hartford, must be matriculated in the College of Arts & Sciences, must have at least a 3.0 grade point average, must be majoring in one of the humanities or social sciences, must have completed at least 30 credit hours at the University, and must have at least sophomore standing at the time of application. Preference will be given to applicants who will be juniors during the 2021-22 academic year.
3. Basis of selection: The selection of a Herbert P. Schoen Scholar will be based on assessments of each candidate’s academic achievement, personal character, and involvement in community and public service activities. The completed application should include:
